TEMPO.COJakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has advised the residents of Jakarta and its surrounding areas to be cautious of the potential for rain today, Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Referring to the 24-hour weather forecast from BMKG, thick overcast skies are expected to dominate most parts of Jakarta and its surrounding areas from 01:00-07:00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). There is a potential for rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the early hours in parts of South Jakarta, East Jakarta, Bogor Regency and City, Bekasi Regency and City, as well as South Tangerang City.

As the day progresses until 13:00 WIB, the overcast skies will gradually become thick. There is no potential for rain in the lead-up to midday.

In the afternoon to the evening, specifically until 19:00 WIB, light rain is expected to fall in most parts of South Jakarta, East Jakarta, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, South Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, Bogor Regency and City, as well as Bekasi Regency and City.

With air humidity ranging from 70 to 96 percent, the temperature in the Greater Jakarta area is expected to range from 24-31 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the temperature in Bogor City and Regency will be lower, at 18-28 degrees Celsius.

Weather Outlook for the Next Week

BMKG predicts that the dynamics of global, regional, and local atmospheres will affect the weather in Indonesia over the next week. Globally, the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has strengthened in the negative phase, indicating a weak La Nia, which has the potential to increase the supply of water vapor for rain cloud formation, supported by relatively warm sea surface temperatures in some Indonesian waters.

The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is also predicted to be active across Aceh, the southern region, Java, Kalimantan, Maluku, North Maluku, and most of Papua, while equatorial waves such as Kelvin and Equatorial Rossby are also active in Aceh, Java, NTB, NTT, as well as some areas in Papua. These phenomena increase convection activity and the likelihood of rain in the affected regions.
