TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested 35 suspects in the disclosure of 15 drug cases from late November to early December 2024. The BNN's deputy for eradication, Inspector General I Wayan Sugiri, said that among the suspects was a member of the Indonesian National Police.
"One of them we have secured is a member of the Indonesian National Police," Sugiri said on Thursday, December 5, 2024. According to Sugiri, the member with initial AS is part of the drug network reported in the Lombok case disclosure. BNN officers also confiscated Rp300 million from the drug offense involving AS.
Sugiri explained that the joint BNN team first arrested two suspects with the initials MM and SH who were delivering drugs in Lembuak village, Narmada, Lombok on November 19, 2024. BNN found 0.17 grams of crystal meth wrapped in two boxes covered with red and green wrapping paper.
From MM and SH, BNN then arrested two more suspects with the initials SP and MI in Gerung district, West Lombok regency. "The team expanded and successfully arrested AS on Tuesday, November 19, 2024," Sugiri said, explaining the police officer's arrest.
AS was arrested in front of the Shabara Police Station, East Perak, Pabean Cantikan, Surabaya. According to the head of the BNN, Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom, AS is a member of the East Java police force. "He works at the East Java Regional Police, KP3 (Pelabuhan Tanjung Perak Police Station) Surabaya," Martinus said.
He said they were continuing to investigate other police officers involved in the network. According to Martinus, AS played an important role in the drug case. "He is the one who controls the distribution from Medan to Lombok," he said.
However, he could not say how long AS has controlled the Medan-Lombok drug network as AS is currently self-isolating due to COVID-19, according to Martinus. So AS cannot be questioned anymore.
Other evidence seized from this drug network includes 1,994 grams of crystal meth and a cell phone. AS and four other suspects are charged with Article 114 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1) sub Article 113 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (1), subsider Article 112 (2) of the Narcotics Law. "The penalty is either death or life imprisonment," Sugiri said.
