TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) claims that road and bridge repairs in disaster-affected Aceh are underway. The Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, said the national road repair target has been achieved until Thursday, January 1, 2026.

BNPB, as the National Supporting Post Coordinator, released the achieved target of the Ministry of Public Works, which was targeted for December 30, 2025. Muhari mentioned that there are a total of 13 functional national road sections.

Meanwhile, there are two functional national road sections through alternative routes, including one connecting Bireuen-Bener Meriah with Bener Meriah-Central Aceh. The alternative route is available at Weihni Enang-Enang Bridge and Jamu Ujung Bridge.

"Furthermore, the Genting Gerbang-Simpang Uning road section is still blocked, but residents can use an alternative route at Titi Merah Bridge," Muhari said in a written statement on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Muhari said the Takengon-Blangkejeren route is still being repaired, but said Banda Aceh to Medan via the eastern route, Banda Aceh-Nagan Raya to Medan via the western route, and Nagan Raya to Takengon are already connected.

Meanwhile, from Lhokseumawe to Takengon via the KKA route has also been connected. Bireuen to Bener Meriah, despite there being repairs at several bridge points, has an alternative route to allow road users to pass through. "The road access from Pidie to Takengon has also been connected," he said.

Muhari claimed that the target of national road access recovery has been achieved. According to him, with the restoration of main land routes or accesses, whether it is the east-west route, central route, and west route, or connections between these three routes, it will accelerate recovery, especially in the energy, electricity, and communication sector in areas that were previously difficult to reach, such as Bener Meriah and Central Aceh.

Meanwhile, according to Muhari, 16 bridges reported to have been damaged have been 100 percent repaired. "The details of the completed bridges are 12 functional bridges at existing locations, and four functional bridges through alternative routes, including Weihni Enang-Enang, Jamur Ujung, Titi Merah, and Krueng Beutong," he said.

Muhari added that regarding the 361 recorded landslide points, as of January 1, 2026, work had been completed on 360 points, or 99.72 percent. The government is still working on functional access to Weihni Enang-Enang Bridge through an alternative route.

"With the gradual recovery of road access and bridges, the government hopes that the energy sector recovery can be achieved by mid-January," he said.

Nevertheless, BNPB remains vigilant against potential factors that may disrupt the results of the joint repairs, such as the weather.

BNPB, according to Muhari, continues to carry out weather modification operations to support the acceleration process of river normalization at several points. BNPB assesses that if there is moderate to high-intensity rain, it can cause overflow, as happened some time ago in three regencies. "This could affect the results of the road and bridge repairs," he said.
