TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wahyudin, a Quran teacher from Ciledug, Tangerang City, has been arrested on charges of molesting dozens of his students over a seven-year period starting in 2017. He was apprehended in Serang Regency, Banten, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, following his flight from his residence in Kampung Dukuh RT 001/RW 002, Sudimara Selatan Village, Ciledug District, Tangerang City.
"We must emphasize that the suspect, known as W alias I, has been involved in the sexual abuse of minors from 2017 to 2024," stated Sr. Comr. Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Criminal Investigation for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, during a press conference at the South Jakarta Metro Police office on Friday, January 31.
Metro Police PR chief, Sr. Comr. Ade Ary Syam Indradi, reported that 20 victims have come forward, with 19 being minors and one an adult. All victims are male students of Wahyudin.
"The suspect manipulated his victims by claiming to have dreams where he was ill, and the only cure was the victims' semen, thus perpetrating the abuse," Wira explained.
Wahyudin enticed his victims with gifts such as smartphones, cigarettes, food, free internet access, and cash. "After the act, he would give them sums ranging from Rp20,000 to Rp50,000," Wira added.
Born in Tangerang on February 20, 1984, Wahyudin posed as a religious teacher, or Ustad, conducting Quran recitation classes at his home, where he would gather and subsequently molest children.
Evidence seized by the police includes three of Wahyudin's mobile devices, one BNI ATM card, cash amounting to Rp21,065,000, among others. He faces charges under Article 76E in conjunction with Article 82 of Law No. 17 of 2016.
"The suspect faces a prison term ranging from a minimum of 5 years to a maximum of 15 years, along with a potential fine of up to Rp5 billion," Wira said.
