TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 25-year-old man was killed and two others injured in a shooting near a mosque in Orebro, southern Sweden, on Friday, August 15, 2025. Police said the incident occurred shortly after Friday prayers ended at the Orebro Mosque in the Boglundsngen area. As worshippers were leaving, several gunshots were heard.

Authorities received reports of the shooting at around 01:45 PM local time. Two people were injured and by 05:30 PM one of them was pronounced dead.

Police launched an investigation to determine whether the case falls under attempted murder and serious firearms violations.

Europe has witnessed several shooting incidents since early 2025, including in Austria and Sweden.

Shooting in Austria

In Graz, Austria, a 21-year-old gunman opened fire at a high school on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, killing 10 people. Another victim who was hospitalized later died. The suspect took his own life after the attack, which shocked the country where armed violence is rare.

Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner confirmed that the victims were aged between 14 and 18. Twelve other students were injured, several in serious condition.

Austria has a very low rate of firearm homicides, only 0.1 per 100,000 people in 2021. This is far below the United States, which recorded 4.5 per 100,000. The Graz attack is regarded as one of the most brutal school shootings in modern Austrian history and has left deep trauma among the 350 students and their families.

The attacker, a former student, was reported to have carried a pistol and fired at two classrooms, including one that had once been his own. Police said he acted alone, according to Al Jazeera.

Shooting in Sweden

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, an armed man opened fire at a school in Orebro, Sweden, killing 11 people. The school is part of a larger educational complex.

Police received the first report of gunfire at 00:33 PM local time. Witnesses described hearing continuous shots that caused panic among students and staff. Many ran for safety, while others hid in classrooms.

Quran Burner Shot in Sweden

Salwan Momika, known for publicly burning the Quran, was shot and killed on Wednesday night, January 29, 2025, at his residence in Sodertalje, Sweden.

A police spokesperson in Stockholm said Momika was found with gunshot wounds in his apartment and rushed to hospital, but he did not survive. Authorities opened an investigation into the shooting.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described Momika’s killing as a spectacular incident that prompted the national security agency to intensify its involvement. "There is a real risk that this incident has connections to foreign powers," Kristersson said, as quoted by Antara.
