TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, stated readiness to send officials from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to carry out customs and excise operations at Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) Airport in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi.
Purbaya pointed out that there were policy errors in the management and operations of Morowali's IMIP Airport, which are the initial source of controversy. He also questioned the absence of Immigration and Customs officials at the airport.
Therefore, he believes that government intervention is necessary to resolve the issues at IMIP Airport. In this context, Purbaya is confident that he can resolve the customs and excise issues at the airport if allowed to participate in resolving the problems. However, he admitted that he has not received instructions to take on a role in the IMIP Airport case.
"If we are asked to get involved, we could resolve it quickly. But for now, there are no instructions," said Purbaya when approached in the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation had confirmed that IMIP Airport in Fatufia Village, Bahodopi District, Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, has official status and is registered with the government.
This assurance came following controversy claiming that the airport was operating without the presence of state authorities.
Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana stated that IMIP Airport has been officially recorded in the Ministry of Transportation.
On the other hand, President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the enforcement of regulations on various activities at the airport. This includes addressing mining activities. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, speaking at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta and quoted in an audio recording on Thursday, said the government will continue to take legal action against alleged illegal mining activities.
"The President's directive to us, as the task force and as the Minister of ESDM, is to enforce the regulations. We should not discriminate, because the state must not lose against any inappropriate or violating activities," said Bahlil.
As of now, Bahlil is still waiting for reports from the team regarding alleged illegal mining activities.
