TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian national team goalkeeper, Ronny Pasla, passed away in Jakarta in the early hours of Monday, November 24, 2025. He was 79 years old.
As reported by Antara, his body will be laid in state at the Evangelical Church in Central Jakarta, before being buried at the Pondok Kelapa Cemetery, Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 25.
Ronny was the main goalkeeper of the Indonesian national team in the late 1960s to the 1970s. He achieved several successes with the Garuda squad, including leading Indonesia to victory in the Aga Khan Gold Cup 1967, the Merdeka Tournament 1969, and the Singapore Sukan Cup 1972.
One of Ronny's famous moments with the national team was when he played against the Brazilian club, Santos, in a friendly match in 1972 which ended with a score of 1-2. During that match, he was able to save a penalty kick from the Samba legend, Pele, in addition to making several crucial saves.

At the club level, Ronny played for several clubs, namely Dinamo Medan, PSMS Medan, Persija Jakarta, and Indonesia Muda. He was part of the Persija squad that became the champion of the competition in 1975.
Prior to pursuing a career in football, Ronny was a tennis athlete. He was even registered as a tennis athlete representing North Sumatra Province at the National Sports Week VII in 1965. However, the event was cancelled due to the eruption of the G30S incident.
After retiring as a football player at the age of 40, Ronny briefly returned to playing tennis. He even had a tennis school called Velodrom Tennis School in Jakarta.
