TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airline PT Garuda Indonesia is targeting to add 20 more aircraft this year, Garuda CEO Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan said.
"This year, Garuda Indonesia aims to add more aircraft. The target is 20 aircraft," Wamildan said at the SOE Ministry office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, January 2.
Garuda, he continued, is completing three aircraft that will arrive in January and February 2025. In January, there would be two Boeing aircraft. "In February, there will be another 737 (type). Hopefully, we can reach 20 aircraft in 2025," Wamildan said.
However, he has yet to reveal the other 17 additional fleets. Wamildan said Garuda will look for available aircraft, "it can be new or second-hand," he added.
Wamildan said adding aircraft is part of Garuda's strategy to optimize the airline's available routes. According to him, Garuda has a lot of routes but lacks the number of aircraft needed to optimize them.
"So this is our priority. We add the aircraft so that it can cover all the available routes," said Wamildan.
Garuda Indonesia operated 96 aircraft as of October 2024. This number includes 56 aircraft operated by Garuda Indonesia and 40 by its subsidiary Citilink. The figure does not include four additional aircraft expected to arrive in late 2024.
