TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has formalized a commercial partnership with Singapore Airlines, aimed at optimizing the network between the two countries. This partnership will involve increasing flight frequencies for both airlines at the Jakarta and Singapore hubs, commencing gradually from December 1, 2024.

Singapore is one of the pivotal international markets and destinations for Garuda Indonesia. This is evident in the significant annual growth of passenger traffic between the two countries,” said Irfan Setiaputra, President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., in a written statement quoted on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

Starting December 1, 2024, Garuda Indonesia will increase the frequency of its Jakarta-Singapore roundtrip flights from four to six daily flights. Singapore Airlines, on the other hand, will elevate its Singapore-Jakarta roundtrip flight frequency from six to eight daily flights, effective November 22, 2024.

In addition to the increased flight frequencies, both airlines will expand their codeshare agreement to maximize network and flight service capacity. This will involve operating flight routes from Singapore to four Indonesian destinations, namely Jakarta, Denpasar, Medan, and Surabaya, as well as international destinations from Singapore to various European and Asian cities.

Through this optimized codeshare network and flight capacity, the two airlines will collectively serve a minimum of 390 flights per week, with 362 flights operating on routes to and from destinations in Singapore and Indonesia.

“This is our effort to meet the growing demand for air travel between the two countries and reaffirms our commitment to providing seamless connectivity for Garuda Indonesia passengers to access various international destinations, particularly in Europe and Asia,” Irfan added.

Furthermore, both airlines have agreed to enhance their respective frequent flyer programs. In early 2025, GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer members will be able to redeem miles on codeshare routes operated by both airlines.

Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Pong expressed gratitude to Indonesia for approving the increased flight frequencies. He emphasized that this partnership will offer additional value and options for travelers between Indonesia and Singapore.

“Both airlines also agree to further strengthen this mutually beneficial cooperation. This synergy is expected to optimize connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore, positively impacting tourism and economic activities in both countries,” he concluded.
