TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President VP Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited shelters where people were evacuated due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in Larantuka, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Gibran previously completed his activities in Makassar and Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi.
The Vice President's Secretariat said in a written statement that upon his arrival in Larantuka, Gibran visited the evacuation centers as directed by President Prabowo Subianto. The first site he visited was the Konga Field Shelter at an elementary school of SDK Konga.
The former mayor of Solo interacted with refugees to learn about their conditions and needs. Gibran continued his visit to the Kobasoma Field Shelter at SDK Pukaunu, another elementary school.
The written statement said that Gibran also visited the trauma healing area for children, giving them toys and warm greetings. In addition to the two evacuation sites, the son of the 7th Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, also visited the Lewolaga and Eputobi Field Shelters to ensure the readiness of logistics and the comfort of the refugees.
Gibran was accompanied by Minister of Public Housing and Settlement Maruarar Sirait, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Head of BNPB Suharyanto, NTT Acting Governor Andriko Noto Susanto, and Acting Regent of East Flores Sulastri H.I. Rasyid.
According to the government on Thursday, November 14, 13,649 refugees were scattered in various evacuation sites, including Konga Field Shelter (1,748 people), Bokang Wulumatang Post (595 people), Lewolaga Post (2,343 people), Duntana Lewoingu (Eputobi) Post (979 people), Sikka District Post (3,429 people), Kobasoma Post (644 people), Ile Gerong Post (350 people), and Independent Evacuation Post (3,561 people).
Since the eruption began on Sunday, November 3, the refugees were previously in East Flores and Sikka districts. These two districts are the main areas affected by the eruption as they are within a 9 km radius of the active crater.
