TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national futsal team has been nominated for Best Men’s National Futsal Team at the Futsal Awards 2025, an annual global accolade organized by Futsal Planet. The nominations were announced in January 2026.

Now in its 26th edition, the Futsal Awards, also known as the Futsal Planet Awards, recognize outstanding achievements across the international futsal community.

This year’s awards feature 15 categories, including Best Men’s National Team, Best Coach, and Best Club.

Indonesia is listed among the nominees for Best Men’s National Futsal Team alongside established futsal powerhouses such as Argentina, Brazil, and Ukraine. The Garuda squad is also one of three Asian representatives, joining Iran and Japan.

Notably, Spain’s senior national team is absent from the list this year, while Portugal U-19 is the only youth team to receive a nomination.

Indonesia’s international recognition extends beyond the national team. Hector Souto, head coach of the Indonesian futsal team, has been nominated for Best Men’s National Futsal Team Coach, also known as the Dimitri Nicolaou Award.

The Spanish tactician stands out as the only nominee currently coaching a national team outside his home country.

At club level, Indonesia is also represented in the Best Men’s Futsal Club in the World category through Bintang Timur Surabaya. The club will compete against elite sides including Palma Futsal, SL Benfica Futsal, and Boca Juniors Futsal.

From Asia, Bintang Timur is joined by AFC Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan and Hongyen Thakam FC of Thailand.

Bintang Timur’s head coach, Diego Rios, has likewise earned a nomination for Best Men’s Futsal Club Coach in the World.

The Spanish coach is recognized for his success with the Surabaya-based club before continuing his career in Italy with L84 in 2025.

Indonesia’s presence across multiple categories at the Futsal Awards 2025 highlights the country’s growing global stature in futsal, reflecting progress at the national team, coaching, and club levels.
