TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is committed to realizing national energy self-sufficiency. This is done by strengthening bilateral relations between the Indonesian government and China in the sustainable energy sector.

President Prabowo witnessed the agreement between PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara or PLN (Persero) and two major Chinese companies, namely PT Huawei Tech Investment and SDIC Power during the state visit to China on November 8 to 10, 2024. "This collaboration marks a new chapter in the Indonesia-China economic relations and lays a strong foundation for various sectors, including energy and technology, to develop sustainably," said Prabowo in a statement received by Tempo on Monday, November 11, 2024.

Prabowo appreciates the cooperation agreement between the Indonesian government and China, which took place at the Indonesia-China Business Forum (ICBF) in Beijing, China on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Prabowo emphasizes that the collaboration is also aimed at enhancing Indonesia's energy independence.

Meanwhile, Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PT PLN, stated that the company is the backbone of electricity in the country. Therefore, he is committed to continue collaborating with various global partners to achieve sustainable energy self-sufficiency targets.

"Climate crisis is a global challenge, and this collaboration is evidence of our unity in safeguarding the future of the earth. Through synergy between Indonesia and China, we ensure that future generations can enjoy a better life than today," Darmawan said in the same written statement.

Furthermore, he explained that the collaboration with two Chinese companies demonstrates PT PLN's seriousness in ensuring sustainable energy availability. Darmawan mentioned that it also supports Prabowo's government in realizing energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia.

Moreover, he also conveyed that this collaboration is evidence of the increasingly close bilateral relations between Indonesia and China. Darmawan also appreciates the willingness of the two Chinese companies to partner with PT PLN in developing green energy.

"This synergy highlights our strong commitment with international partners to enhance energy independence that will drive the economy for the Indonesian people," he said.

Furthermore, Corporate Planning Director and Business Development of PT PLN, Hartanto Wibowo, also expressed similar sentiments. He stated that in the agreement between PT Huawei Tech Investment and PT PLN, they agreed to collaborate on accelerating digital transformation studies in the electricity sector.

He believes that this collaboration will help optimize the power industry to be more efficient, ensure cyber security, and support the energy transition in Indonesia. Through this optimization, according to Hartanto, via solar energy, micro-grid systems, hybrid power plants, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

"This collaboration is not only to strengthen infrastructure but also to increase the capacity of PLN employees through sharing knowledge and capacity building in the digital transformation of the power sector. This step aligns with our major energy transition agenda," Hartanto said.

He added that the collaboration with SDIC Power focuses on the development of the Mamberamo hydroelectric power plant (PLTA) in Papua. Apart from meeting the demand for renewable energy, the collaboration with the Chinese company will also conduct studies on the business, technical, legal, and risks of this hydroelectric power plant.

"With SDIC Power, we plan to strengthen the technical and managerial capabilities of PLN in developing PLTA Mamberamo. This collaboration is part of PLN's commitment to increase the use of renewable energy, while expanding access to clean and sustainable energy for the people of Papua and other regions," he concluded.
