TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Perry Warjiyo, announced that cross-border Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions with Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand reached a total of Rp1.66 trillion by June 2025.
Speaking in Jakarta on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Perry noted that QRIS transactions with Thailand recorded 994,890 payments totaling Rp437.54 billion since its launch in August 2022.
Transactions between Indonesia and Malaysia reached 4.31 million, with a total value of Rp1.15 trillion since May 2023. Meanwhile, QRIS usage with Singapore, introduced on November 17, 2023, totaled 238,216 transactions worth Rp77.06 billion.
Perry emphasized BI’s commitment to continue working with the payment industry and the wider community to expand QRIS usage, supported by sustainable development of QRIS features and broader domestic and international cooperation.
Earlier, following Bank Indonesia’s Board of Governors Meeting in July 2025, Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta reported that cross-border QRIS transactions were showing positive growth.
She highlighted an increase in inbound transactions, particularly from foreign tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, using QRIS in Indonesia.
Digital payment usage through QRIS rose by 35 percent in major tourist destinations such as Bali, Yogyakarta, and Lake Toba, while outbound transactions by Indonesians traveling to these countries experienced a slight slowdown.
On the occasion of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, Bank Indonesia further expanded QRIS availability to countries beyond Southeast Asia. Indonesian citizens in Japan can now officially use QRIS for payments through JPQR Global.
Additionally, BI has begun trial interconnections of the QRIS system between Indonesia and China in collaboration with the People’s Bank of China (PBoC).
