TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan revealed that the government is currently preparing to establish a task force to address the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak. This was discussed in a limited cross-ministerial coordination meeting held this morning on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

"We just concluded the discussion so we can swiftly address the matter. We agreed to form a task force,” said the minister in a press conference after the meeting.

Later, he said, the task force will consist of several related ministries and institutions to expedite the outbreak handling process. "It will consist of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, the Minister of Home Affairs, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the Minister of Agriculture. Before we form a team, the task force must perform tasks in their respective fields for swift action to tackle the issue,” he said.

Previously, the swine fever disease was detected in several central pig farming regions, including Bali, North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua.

Most cases of the African swine fever outbreak have been found in Papua, particularly in Nabire and Timika. Meanwhile, for swine fever cases found in Bali, the minister claimed the government handled it properly.

"Others are safe," he said.

On this occasion, he also urged the public not to worry about the spread of African swine fever. He explained that the swine fever outbreak only affects livestock and does not have the potential to be transmittable to humans.
