TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is urging all parties to prioritize peaceful measures amid the large-scale attack by the United States (US) on Venezuela, claiming that President Nicolas Maduro has been abducted by the US in the aggression.
"Indonesia calls on all relevant parties to prioritize peaceful resolution through de-escalation and dialogue," as stated in a written statement from the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) RI on the X social media platform, cited by Antara on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Indonesia emphasizes the need to prioritize the protection of civilians amidst the escalation of the situation in the South American country.
Indonesia also asserts that international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter must always be respected by all parties.
On a separate occasion, Yvonne Mewengkang, the spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that they are monitoring developments to ensure the safety of Indonesians in Venezuela.
"Indonesia also calls on all relevant parties to prioritize peaceful resolution through de-escalation and dialogue, while prioritizing the protection of civilians," as reported by CNBC.
At the same time, MoFA RI ensures the safety of Indonesian citizens in Venezuela amidst the US attack on Venezuela. The Indonesian Embassy in Caracas continues to carefully monitor the situation in Venezuela and actively monitor the condition and safety of all Indonesian citizens in the country.
"Currently, all Indonesian citizens in Venezuela are reported to be safe," said MoFA RI.
The people of Venezuela were startled by a number of massive explosions in several areas of the country early on Saturday amidst escalating tensions with the US, local media reported.
Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke in several places in the capital, Caracas, and the sound of air raid sirens. It was also reported that there were at least seven explosions, and fighter jets were seen flying low.
Electricity went out in several areas in Caracas, including the southern part of the city near the main military base.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, through a post on Telegram, stated that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects and condemns the openly military aggression by the US against the territory and people of Venezuela.
Amid the attack, US President Donald Trump claimed that US special forces had abducted President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
"President Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been captured and flown out of the country," Trump said on the Truth Social platform.
However, Trump's claim regarding the capture of Maduro has not been independently verified. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez urged Trump to prove that Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, are still alive.
