TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Futsal National Team became the champion of the AFF Futsal Cup 2024 after beating Vietnam 2-0 in the final match at Terminal 21, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on Sunday, November 10, 2024. The winning goals were scored by Muhammad Syaifullah and Rizki Xavier.
Indonesia dominated the game from the early minutes of the match. In the sixth minute, Rio Pangestu had a golden opportunity but his shot narrowly missed the Vietnam goal.
A minute later, Indonesia took the lead through a well-executed teamwork resulting in Muhammad Syaifullah easily scoring from close range to put Team Garuda ahead 1-0.
The high pressure applied by Hector Souto's squad made it difficult for Vietnam to find space. On one hand, Indonesia managed to create several counter-attacking opportunities but failed to convert them into goals by Evan Soumilena and Rio Pangestu.
In the 18th minute, Samuel Eko found space but his shot, which confused the Vietnam player's defense, couldn't extend the lead.
Shortly after, Ahmad Habibie's goal was threatened, yet Chau Doan Phat's shot didn't hit the target. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Indonesia until halftime.
In the second half, Indonesia didn't slow down the game to counter Vietnam's more aggressive and intense style of play.
Brian Ick had a chance to double the lead, but his shot in the 30th minute of the second half went wide of the Vietnam goal.
Vietnam played more openly in the last three minutes by adopting a power play strategy. This forced Indonesia to play defensively and wait for quick counter-attacks.
Indonesia capitalized on the counter-attacking momentum from Vietnam's power play lapse. Just before the end of the match, a cool strike from outside the penalty box by Rizki Xavier changed the score to 2-0.
The 2-0 lead was maintained until the end of the game, making the Indonesian Futsal National Team the winners. Evan Soumilena secured the championship with an undefeated status throughout the competition.
This title also marks the second championship title for Hector Souto's team during their participation in the AFF Futsal Cup.
Player lineup:
Indonesia: Ahmad Habibie (GK); Firman Adriansyah, Evan Soumilena, Brian Ick, Ardiansyah Nur
Vietnam: Pham Van Tu (GK); Tran Thai Huy, Chau Doan Phat, Nguyen Thinh Phat, Nhan Gia Hung
