TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chief of the Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, expressed his commitment to combat online gambling practices, including taking firm action against police officers involved. This was conveyed by the Police Chief after attending a working meeting with the House of Representatives Commission III at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, November 11, 2024.
Sigit emphasized that all police personnel involved in such illegal activities will be dealt with. He claimed to have instructed the Professional and Security Division (Propam) to take disciplinary measures against members proven to be involved.
"Regarding members who still lightly participate or try online gambling, I have ordered the Propam Director to carry out enforcement and impose sanctions," said Sigit.
Sigit stated that the punishment for members backing or even receiving rewards from online gambling perpetrators will not only stop at disciplinary sanctions. "Those involved in receiving or even backing, I request for a thorough criminal investigation and prosecution, I think that is our commitment," he said.
In addition to internal enforcement, he also emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant agencies. The National Police will strengthen cooperation with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), Financial Services Authority (OJK), and other ministries to optimize the eradication of online gambling in Indonesia.
"So, we will strengthen collaboration with PPATK, with the relevant ministries, so that the eradication of online gambling can truly be maximized," he said.
Furthermore, the Police Chief stated that they will track and seize the assets of online gambling perpetrators for the state. "We can trace their assets, if we can obtain them, we can seize them, and we can hand them over to the state," he said.
Through these steps, the Police hope that online gambling practices can be eradicated to the core and the internal integrity of the National Police Force can be maintained.
