Israelis Increasingly Ostracized in Europe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli media reports a new phenomenon affecting Israeli citizens, where they are increasingly 'not accepted in Europe.'

Channel 12 News states that more Israeli citizens in Europe are booking hotels, only to later receive statements from the hotels indicating that they are not accepted because people across Europe are starting to hold Israel accountable for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The channel highlights a case in Italy, where a hotel in the northern part of the country rejected bookings made by several Israelis. Those who booked online received the following message:

"Good morning, we inform you that Israeli citizens, responsible for genocide, are not accepted as guests at our hotel. If you wish to cancel your reservation, we will gladly do so and offer free cancellation."

During the #EuroLeague basketball match in #Athens on Tuesday, #Panathinaikos fans waved Palestinian flags in the home match against Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv team.

They also displayed a large banner that read "Stop Genocide, Free Palestine" in the stands.

This incident occurred a few days after clashes in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, where Israeli rioters physically attacked citizens, took down Palestinian flags displayed on private properties, and chanted provocative slogans inciting violence against Arabs and Palestinians.

Similar clashes occurred a few days later in France during a football match between the French national team and the Israeli national team, leading to confrontations among fans.

This indicates the emergence of an "eighth front" that Israel is now facing, in addition to the seven existing fronts: "international front and risks for Israeli citizens abroad," according to Israeli media.

Elsewhere, the media highlights that Israeli citizens are increasingly isolated and not accepted amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Not Anti-Semitic

The director of an Israeli think tank describes the demonstrations in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, as anti-Israel and anti-Zionist, not anti-Semitic.

Maya Sion-Tzidkiyahu, director of the Israel-Europe Relations Program at the Israeli think tank Mitvim, and a lecturer at the Hebrew University's Europe Forum and the Tel Aviv University's European Studies Program, stated in an interview that the demonstrators opposing Israel's supporters are not targeting Jewish people, but Israelis.

She emphasizes that these actions are primarily motivated by anti-Zionist or anti-'Israel' sentiments.

While clarifying that "there is no justification for violence," pro-Palestinian individuals "specifically targeted those who tore down Palestinian flags and called for the death of Arabs."

The actions in Amsterdam are a result of anti-Israel sentiments. There is a very sharp new form of anti-Semitism, but in Amsterdam, it is primarily anti-Israel and anti-Zionist.

Sion-Tzidkiyahu said, "a month after the war, the civilian casualties in Gaza sparked a huge anti-Israel wave. It is very easy to dismiss everything with the word 'anti-Semitism.'"

The professor warned that as long as Israel's occupation and its Western allies continue to equate opposition to Israel and its war crimes with anti-Semitism, Tel Aviv risks fueling anti-Semitism in Europe, rooted in anti-Israel and anti-Zionist sentiments.

Furthermore, she stressed that Israeli citizens must understand that Israel's atrocities in Gaza will jeopardize European Jewish citizens and the continuation of Jewish life in Europe "due to the increasing anti-Semitic attacks against them."
