TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Acting Governor of Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, said that he has mapped out flood-prone areas in Jakarta.

Based on data from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the flood-prone areas in Jakarta include:

- West Jakarta: Kembangan Utara, Rawa Buaya, Tegal Alur, Kedoya Selatan, Kedoya Utara.

- South Jakarta: Cipete Utara, Petogogan, Cipulir, Pondok Pinang, and Ulujami.

- East Jakarta: Cawang, Balekambang, Kampung Melayu, Bidara Cina, and Cililitan.

- North Jakarta: Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, West Pademangan, and East Pademangan.

- Central Jakarta: Kebon Melati, Petamburan, and Bendungan Hilir.

According to Teguh, the Jakarta Provincial Government anticipates the impact of flooding along the Ciliwung River including dredging and widening the river or normalizing it, to increase its water storage capacity and restore the river’s natural function.

"Regarding the normalization of the Ciliwung River in the Jakarta area, the Jakarta Provincial Government has the task of land acquisition for the riverbanks, where the physical normalization work will be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works," said Teguh in a written message to Tempo on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

He said the normalizing of rivers and streams is ongoing, including in the Pengadegan and Rawajati areas in Pancoran District, South Jakarta.

As of 2024, the completed embankment for the normalization of the Ciliwung River has reached 17.17 kilometers. "Thus, 16.52 kilometers are remaining from the total planned embankment length of 33 kilometers," he said.

Besides river normalization, he said, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also actively educating the public about the Ciliwung River. Socialization is being carried out regarding the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the river and the surrounding environment to prevent blockages in the water flow that could lead to flooding.

The community, he explained, is encouraged not to throw trash into the river and to participate in gotong royong (community cooperation) activities to clean the riverbanks. "In addition, disaster preparedness training is also provided to residents, including evacuation simulations during floods, so that the community is more prepared and responsive in facing potential disasters," he said.
