TEMPO.CO, Solo - The 7th Indonesian President, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, has responded to his dismissal from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), stating that he respects the decision of the party.
“Yes, it's okay. I respect that,” he said on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, when speaking to the media at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari District, Solo, Central Java. This statement followed the official announcement of his dismissal by Komarudin Watubun, Head of the PDIP Honorary Division, on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Jokowi, along with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and his son-in-law, Bobby Nasution, were all dismissed from the party by the PDIP leadership.
When pressed for further comment, Jokowi declined to offer an assessment of the decision. “I am not in a position to defend or assess the decision, as it has already been made. Time will test it,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of returning his party membership card, Jokowi simply smiled. Regarding his future political affiliations, he reiterated his intention to remain politically independent. “I have previously stated that I will continue as an independent.”
Regarding the dismissals of Gibran and Bobby, Jokowi directed media inquiries to his son. “Just ask Mas Gibran, why ask me?” he said.
The official dismissal of Jokowi, Gibran, and Bobby was announced by Komarudin Watubun on Monday, December 16, 2024, during a meeting of all provincial-level DPD chairpersons of the PDIP. He claimed that this decision was made upon the direct instruction of PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri.
