TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Indonesian railway company, KAI, ensures the smooth and safe operation of trains during the Christmas and New Year holidays in Indonesia. Using the Inspection Train (KAIS), officers and management are inspecting the railways in Operational Area (Daop) 6 of Yogyakarta on Wednesday and Thursday, December 11 and 12, 2024.
Krisbiyantoro, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated that KAIS is a specially designed facility with advanced technology, equipped with numerous facilities such as a panoramic glass observation room, real-time communication devices, and a railway monitoring system. These facilities enable the inspection team, which includes the Directorate General of Railways, the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), and KAI officials, to evaluate the conditions of the railways and supporting facilities in real-time.
Mapping Potential Obstacles
The inspection, Krisbiyantoro said, is a preventive measure to map potential obstacles along the railways and to ensure complete readiness from operational to service aspects during the Christmas and New Year holidays operation.
As the rainy season coincides with the year-end holidays, Krisbiyantoro said that the institution also prepared additional personnel, including Railway Crossing Guards (PJL) and Railway Inspection Officers (PPJ), spread across the entire region.
Train Safety
During the KAIS inspection, the KAI Board of Commissioners and Directors also provided training to all management and workers of Daop 6.
Regarding safety, the Director of Safety and Security at KAI Dadan Rudiansyah revealed that KAI already has a good safety system as the main foundation in running the railway business.
"We have established a safety committee in each work unit to ensure more structured safety oversight. In addition, implementing the Contractor Safety Management System (CSMS) allows us to manage work safety with third-party partners more effectively," said Dadan Rudiansyah.
Through the application of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (IBPR) and Safety Railways Information (SRI) reporting, KAI can better identify and manage risks.
“With a focus on unsafe conditions and unsafe actions, the field data collected becomes the basis for continuous improvement," he said
