TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators searched the Bank Indonesia (BI) office on Monday night, December 16, 2024. KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto confirmed the information.
"It's true, a team from the KPK conducted a search at the BI office last night," Tessa said via text message on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Tessa said the search by investigators took place at the Bank Indonesia office complex, Jalan M.H. Thamrin Number 2, Gambir, Central Jakarta. Tessa has not revealed what evidence the KPK investigators found during the search.
The KPK has previously investigated the alleged corruption case of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds within Bank Indonesia. The KPK previously explained that the use of CSR funds from Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) was allegedly problematic because it was not in accordance with its intended use.
On September 18, 2024, KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu said there were allegations of the use of CSR funds for personal interests, not for social interests.
"The problem is when the CSR funds are not used according to their intended use. This means that there are some, for example, there are 100 CSRs, only 50 are used, the 50 are not used, and this is used for personal interests, for example," said Asep at that time.
In this case, Asep gave an example of CSR funds that should be used for social activities and building facilities being misused for other interests. "If it is used according to its intended use, there is no problem," he said.
The KPK has also named a number of suspects in this case. However, Asep was reluctant to reveal his identity, role and involvement to the public.
Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said BI had provided the information needed in the investigation process. "Bank Indonesia as an institution with strong governance and upholds the principles of law has of course provided the information needed in the investigation process," Perry said at a press conference after the BI Board of Governors Meeting on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
