Labor Party Postpones Rally, Proposes 3 Formulas for 2026 Minimum Wage

TEMPO.COJakarta - The Labor Party and the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) have postponed the demonstration regarding the 2026 provincial minimum wage increase (UMP), which was originally scheduled for today.

Labor Party President Said Iqbal stated that, despite the postponement, laborers have proposed three calculation options for the government to consider, aligning with the working class's expectations.

"The options are an increase of 8.5-10.5 percent, 7.77 percent, and 6.5 percent," he said in a written statement on Monday, November 24, 2025.

The 8.5% hike is derived from 3.26% inflation + 1.0 x 5.2% economic growth, rounded up from 8.46%. The 10.5% increase uses a specific index of 1.4, suitable for regions with exceptional economic growth (for example, North Maluku, which is above 30%).

The 7.77% hike is derived from BPS macroeconomic figures (October 2024–September 2025): 2.65% inflation + 1.0 x 5.12% economic growth.

The 6.5% hike is proposed based on macroeconomic figures similar to those cited by President Prabowo Subianto, using data from the October 2025–September 2025 period.

Warning Against Low Index Use

Said Iqbal reiterated the laborers' firm position, warning the government not to use the minimum index of 0.2–0.7 when calculating the 2026 minimum wage increase, as this percentage does not meet worker expectations.

"If the government decides on the minimum wage increase for 2026 using that index, the laborers will stage large-scale demonstrations and go on a national strike," Said warned.

Reason for Rally Postponement

The planned demonstration, which was intended to reject the government's expected but unsatisfactory 2026 UMP version, was scheduled for the area around the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue and the MPR/DPR Complex.

The rally was postponed because the government also postponed the announcement of the minimum wage increase, which had been scheduled for today, November 24.

"The purpose of the November 24 action was to ask the government not to announce the UMP increase on November 21 [or today, November 24]," Said explained. The protest was canceled because the primary objective, stopping the announcement, was achieved by the government's own delay. The laborers maintain that the government's proposed minimum wage increase, which averages around Rp 90,000 per month, is "still far from the expectations and desires of the laborers."
