TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism Village of Les Village in Bali received an award as the best tourism village at the Indonesia Tourism Village Award (ADWI) 2024. The award was presented at an awarding event at the Teater Tanah Airku Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, on Sunday, 17 November 2024.

Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that ADWI 2024 carries the theme of Divine Tourism Towards Classy World Green Tourism. "This is part of our grand vision for tourism villages to grow into self-sustaining tourism villages and compete globally," she said in her address.

She added that the tourism village awards aim to increase visits to tourism villages by up to 30 percent per year, thereby becoming an economic growth accelerator.

Getting to Know Les Tourism Village

Les is the only tourism village in Bali that made it to the top 50 of ADWI 2024. Located in the Tejakula District, Buleleng Regency, this tourism village is situated between the sea and the mountains, thus having diverse tourism potentials. Les has two waterfalls namely Yeh Mampeh Waterfall and Yeh Anakan located in Selonding Hamlet. Moreover, this village in northern Bali is also a diving destination due to its beautiful coral reefs.

However, it's not only the tourism potentials that earned this village the title of best tourism village. ADWI 2024 Jury Chairman Ari Suhandi stated that Les Village excelled in all assessment categories, especially because they collaborated with several local and international universities.

"They take coral reef monitoring seriously, then they collaborate with an institution for coral reef restoration, also establish mother groups to obtain financial benefits," said Ari after the award presentation.

Ari added that another advantage of this tourism village is its traditionally produced salt. The salt from this village is called palungan salt because the production process uses drying fields in the form of palungan or coconut tree trunks.

"The salt production has become a tourist attraction, and the salt produced is exported to Japan," said Ari.

Aside from the best tourism village, ADWI 2024 also awarded dozens of other tourism villages in various categories.
