TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, stated that BRIN will oversee President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs in the fields of food, energy, and water. He mentioned that these three sectors will be supported by research and innovation.
"BRIN will oversee the President's priority programs related to food, energy, and water issues," said Arif at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The IPB University Rector said that research and innovation are the mainstays of the economy. Countries with high research and innovation capabilities have a positive correlation with economic progress, based on correlation tests.
"The higher the Global Innovation Index, the GDP per capita will almost certainly be high as well. Therefore, BRIN must inevitably boost research and development in this field," said Arif.
Arif mentioned that BRIN will also conduct national consolidation in the field of research and innovation, aimed at bolstering its ecosystem.
The agency, he said, synergizes and collaborates with ministries and institutions, especially with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. BRIN will also work with campuses to develop science and technology.
In addition, Arif said BRIN will collaborate with Danantara, dubbing the sovereign wealth fund a strategic partner to support economic and industrial progress.
Vertically, BRIN will consolidate with regional governments, as resolving local problems requires strengthening regional research and innovation agencies. Moreover, each region has specific concerns that need addressing.
One of the proposed measures is establishing Science Techno Parks (STP) in each region. According to him, STP will be a pillar for the regional economy because it can bridge the gap between the research and industrial worlds.
"The presence of STP, which focuses on the region's areas of excellence, will solve regional problems," he said.
In terms of policy, Arif said BRIN must become a think tank or a public policy research institution for the government. Decisions must be based on research.
"So that the decisions made are based on strong science, on strong research results. That is one form of accountability by government for future public policies," said Arif.
Prabowo inaugurated the Rector of IPB University, Arif Satria, as the new Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency or BRIN. He was sworn in alongside two other state officials at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The other two were Dwiarso Budi Santiarto as the Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Non-Judicial Affairs, and Rear Admiral (Ret.) Amarulla Octavian as the Deputy Head of BRIN.
