TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, divulged that a total of 13,897 Hajj hopefuls failed to pass the visa verification process for the 2025 Hajj season.
"As many as 13,897 people have yet to pass the visa verification process, or 9.01 percent of the total data we received,” he told parliamentary members during a working meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The minister explained that 203,320 people are included in the regular Hajj quota for 2025. Thus far, the Religious Affairs Ministry has logged 154,173 Hajj candidates’ data, or around 75.83 percent of the total available seats.
Around 88.23 percent of current data, or 136,030 pilgrims, have been cleared for the visa verification. Meanwhile, if added to pilgrims undergoing visa verification, it amounts to 152,329 people, or 98.80 percent of the overall data received.
Nasaruddin said the ministry will speed up the verification process despite now being Ramadan since the Saudi Arabian Hajj services only run from February 19 to April 18, 2025. However, he is optimistic that the Ministry of Religious Affairs can resolve this administrative issue within the specified time.
"Of course, we are accelerating the process even during Ramadan, we are pressuring our officers to promptly resolve this matter," he said.
Additionally, based on ministry data as of Tuesday afternoon, March 4, a total of 136,634 regular Hajj pilgrims have paid the designated fee. "And a total of 3,270 prioritized elderly pilgrims,” said the Director of Domestic Hajj Services, Muhammad Zain, in his official statement, adding that regular Hajj pilgrims can still pay their fares until March 14.
