TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Tangerang Immigration Office has arrested four Pakistani nationals on suspicion of immigration fraud. The individuals, identified as MZ, HR, RA, and MI, were apprehended in separate locations within the Tangerang and Bogor regions.

“Their activities have been disruptive and have had negative implications for the community," said Dadan Gunawan, Head of the Immigration Division of the Banten Ministry of Law and Human Rights, during a press conference held at the Tangerang Immigration Office on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

According to Dadan, the four Pakistani nationals had obtained limited-stay permits under the investor category. They claimed to be investors in a company involved in mobile phone sales and Umrah travel.

However, investigations revealed that these claims were fraudulent. “They do not have a legitimate guarantor company, and the companies they claimed to represent are fictitious,” he said.

The investigation began with public reports regarding the suspicious activities of MZ. Following these reports, immigration officers apprehended MZ in Tenjo, Bogor on December 3, 2024.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of HR, RA, and MI in Legok, Tangerang Regency on December 10, 2024. “The investigation uncovered evidence that they had a fictitious guarantor company,” Dadan stated.

Dadan revealed that MZ had facilitated the entry and residence permit applications for three other Pakistani nationals, assisting them in establishing companies. “MZ was involved in the residence permit process, including the transfer of funds to obtain the necessary documents,” he added.

Meanwhile, AR and MI, who claimed to be directors of a fictitious company, were found to be residing at addresses that did not match their residence permits. MI also falsely claimed to be an investor in PT Graha Estate Reality, another fictitious company.

“RA admitted to using an investor Kitas [Limited Stay Permit] managed by an Indonesian citizen with the initials SA, to whom they had paid a sum of money. RA also claimed to be a director in a fictitious company,” Dadan said.

Based on the investigation, there is strong evidence suggesting that the four Pakistani nationals engaged in fraudulent activities by falsely claiming to be investors and representing fictitious companies.

The four individuals are currently being held at the Immigration detention center pending further legal proceedings.

Dadan said that they are suspected of violating Article 123 letter a of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, which prohibits the intentional provision of false or falsified information to obtain a visa or residence permit. This offense carries a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of Rp500 million.
