TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) has arrested MR, a courier transporting 207,000 ecstasy pills in a Nissan Xtrail from Lampung. The suspect initially fled after his vehicle crashed on the Bakauheni Toll Road, Lampung, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Drug Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department, confirmed that police apprehended MR in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
"We apprehended the suspect on Sangereng Road, Ranca Buaya, Jambe District," Eko stated on Monday, November 24, 2025.
During interrogation, MR admitted to receiving orders from an individual named Udin to pick up the ecstasy in Palembang on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Police suspect Udin controls the drug distribution network and have placed him on the Wanted List.
On Tuesday night, November 18, MR departed for Palembang with his wife, R, in the black Nissan Xtrail. They arrived in Palembang on Wednesday and checked into the Aryaduta Hotel, where MR completed the ecstasy transaction with someone identified by the initials UKM.
After the transaction, MR dropped off R at the airport and began transporting the hundreds of thousands of pills alone. On Wednesday night, MR entered the Bakauheni Toll Road. "An accident occurred because MR experienced microsleep," Eko explained.
Panicked by the crash, MR immediately got out of the car, threw five bags containing the pills onto a cliff, and abandoned the vehicle and the drugs. He then ran down the cliff to reach a residential area.
MR fled by taking a minibus to a terminal, then continued his journey by bus to Kalideres Terminal, West Jakarta. He briefly met his family and sought treatment for his injuries at a traditional healing place before Bareskrim finally tracked him down and apprehended him in Tangerang.
Fake Police Badge and Drug Value
Toll road officers discovered a National Police badge on the driver's seat of the crashed car (license plate D 1160 UN).
However, police confirmed that the badge was fake and had been purchased from a store. "According to the suspect's statement, the badge was already there when he bought the vehicle," Eko clarified.
He added that such items can be purchased anywhere, and the discovery does not indicate institutional involvement in the crime.
Police estimate that the 207,529 ecstasy pills recovered have a market value of approximately Rp207.5 billion.
The case was initially handled by the Lampung Regional Police, but Bareskrim took over the investigation and prosecution one day after the accident. Eko noted that the complexity of the inter-provincial drug network required Bareskrim's involvement.
