TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto held a new year meeting with Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The meeting took place at Widya Chandra, South Jakarta, on Friday afternoon, January 2, 2026.
Prabowo and his team discussed at least two agendas. "During the meeting, the President discussed the special assignments for the new year for each participant," Teddy wrote in a caption on his Instagram account, @sekretariat.kabinet.
However, Teddy did not provide further details regarding the specific tasks Prabowo assigned to the group.
During the session, Prabowo also reviewed a report from Dasco concerning the reconstruction of three provinces hit by disasters in Sumatra. Dasco presented these notes in his role as the Chair of the House of Representatives Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force.
The disasters, consisting of flash floods and landslides, struck three provinces at once. The impact spread across 52 regencies and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. These ecological disasters have caused significant loss of life and property across the region.
As of Saturday morning, January 3, 2026, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that 1,157 people died and 165 remain missing. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of residents in the three provinces stay in evacuation centers.
BNPB data shows the Sumatra floods and landslides damaged 178,479 houses, 3,188 schools, 803 places of worship, and 215 health facilities. The disaster also cut off 81 roads and destroyed 34 bridges.
Previously, on January 1, 2026, Prabowo began the year by leading a meeting on disaster management in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh. This regency is one of the areas hit hardest by the floods.
In that meeting, Prabowo received updates on emergency handling, including the construction of shelters for displaced people and the government's recovery plans.
