TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto attended the 2025 National Christmas celebration at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka accompanied him to the event on Monday night, January 5, 2026.
Gibran arrived first at the venue. He waited for Prabowo, who arrived a few minutes later, before they entered the hall together.
A warm welcome met Prabowo and Gibran upon their arrival. Thousands of participants cheered as they made their way to the front row. They greeted several attendees and officials before taking their seats.
The leaders watched several performances organized by the committee. These included a theatrical play by the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) and the Conference of Indonesian Church Bishops (KWI). The Garuda Yaksa Orchestra also provided music for the evening.
Speeches followed the performances. Minister of Public Housing Maruarar Sirait spoke first in his role as the event chairperson. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar also addressed the crowd.
Prabowo then took the podium to deliver his main address. "I express my deepest gratitude for the honor given to me to be here and to directly convey my greetings for the Christmas celebration to my Christian brothers and sisters," he told the audience. He offered a prayer of hope for Christians across the country.
In his speech, Prabowo noted that the event proves Indonesia is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. He shared a personal story about attending a Christian school in the past. He recalled specific teachings, such as the principle of turning the other cheek when facing conflict.
Prabowo also spoke about the criticisms he has faced as president. He remarked on observers who claim to know more than he does. However, he stated that he welcomes all criticism as long as it is not slander.
The President also discussed the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. He claimed the project has received praise from international experts, including the Rockefeller Foundation. He described the program as the best investment for the future of Indonesia.
The 2025 National Christmas event concluded shortly after the speech. Prabowo and Gibran left the main hall of Istora Senayan with their cabinet ministers.
