TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto acknowledged the contributions of the 7th President Joko Widodo or Jokowi during challenging years marked by El Nino and La Nina phenomena in a full cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Office on Monday, December 2, 2024.
“Our steps in late 2024 are also a testament to President Jokowi's support,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo highlighted the government's achievements in boosting food production and establishing substantial food reserves, which he claimed may be the largest in recent years.
According to him, the government's rice stockpile is nearing 2 million tons. “There is a high possibility and I believe that in 2025, we will no longer import rice,” he said, expressing his desire for Indonesia to cease importing other commodities.
Prabowo also commended the Minister of Home Affairs for helping to control regional inflation. The former Defense Minister acknowledged Jokowi's approach to inflation control.
“This approach is rarely implemented in many other countries and we should actually keep this a secret. It might not be taught in economics faculties. [It’s a result of] field experience, because our former president used to be a mayor so he understands how to control inflation in the field,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo was inaugurated as the eighth President of the Republic of Indonesia, replacing Jokowi, on October 20, 2024. Alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi's son, Prabowo's government is committed to continuing the vision of the previous administration.
In his Cabinet Meeting address today, Prabowo emphasized the positive developments during his first one-and-a-half months in office. These achievements include debt relief for small and medium enterprises, increased provincial minimum wages, and higher teacher salaries.
