TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized his focus on what he considers fundamental and strategic policies, such as providing free nutritious meals. The retired military general believes that feeding the nation is the responsibility of any leader.
During the Indonesia-Brazil Business Forum at Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro, on November 17, 2024, Prabowo aligned the government’s vision for nutritious meals with G20 Brazil’s focus on poverty and hunger eradication.
“Growth and prosperity are our goals. However, high growth is meaningless if the majority of people cannot reap its benefits. If wealth is concentrated in a few hands, it's a recipe for a failed state. We must ensure equal opportunities for all,” he declared at the G20 Summit.
He underscored that economic policies should not marginalize the majority. Without elaborating, he expressed interest in studying Brazil's free meal programs.
During a meeting with Indonesian-Brazilian businessmen, Prabowo also highlighted the countries' shared potential, particularly in natural resources and strategic industries. The former commander of the Army Strategic Reserves Command invited Brazilian investors to contribute to Indonesia's fishing industry and support the nation's natural resource downstreaming program.
“We're committed to fostering a positive and open business environment,” Prabowo stated at Copacabana Palace.
