TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto will evaluate the performance of ministers and deputy ministers six months after being inaugurated on October 21, 2024, said Gerindra Party Deputy Chair Hashim Djojohadikusumo on Wednesday, October 23.
"The evaluation will be conducted in March or April 2025," said President Prabowo's younger brother.
According to Hashim, Prabowo will evaluate his cabinet members if they are found to have committed misconduct such as corruption and work inefficiency. “He’s stern,” said Hashim.
During the first plenary meeting with the Red and White Cabinet, Prabowo warned his ministers to reduce ceremonial activities or non-essential foreign visits.
"We must set an example. Our focus is on economic development for people’s welfare,” said Prabowo. “I ask for your work efficiency.”
Prabowo also instructed his cabinet to streamline bureaucracy and study flagship projects in accordance with the goals the president conveyed during his inaugural speech.
It is not yet known whether Prabowo's evaluation will result in a cabinet reshuffle. During President Jokowi's administration, the first cabinet reshuffle took place in August 2015, 10 months after the inauguration.
Oversized Cabinet
Hashim also talked about the public's concerns regarding Prabowo’s large cabinet with 48 ministers and 55 deputy ministers.
"It is quite large, but what is most important is the output,” he said, referring to the work results of the ministries.
Senior economist from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef), Fadhil Hasan, stated that the addition of ministries in President Prabowo Subianto's cabinet is inefficient. The current Red and White Cabinet for the 2024-2029 period consists of seven coordinating ministries and 41 technical ministries.
Fadhil said these changes will be challenging at the start of Prabowo’s administration. “For the next 1-2 years, the oversized cabinet will both be inefficient and sluggish,” he said in an official statement on Tuesday, October 22.
Another issue that will arise concerns coordination between the Prabowo-led ministries and agencies. “There will be overlapping responsibilities between the ministers," he said. “Conflicts may arise between the ministers.”
