TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) said the agency’s preliminary investigation into the video that shows President Prabowo encouraging people to vote for Central Java election running pair Ahmad Luthfi-Taj Yasin Maimoen will be concluded next week.
"We will complete the investigation within seven days. We will have the results on Monday or Tuesday,” said Bawaslu head, Rahmat Bagja, in a press conference broadcast live on Instagram @bawasluri on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
The investigation will conclude within seven days after Bawaslu designated the video as preliminary information to confirm whether a breach of law occurred.
Bawaslu has not received any reports thus far in addition to the preliminary information, Rahmat said.
Bawaslu forms a special team
Bawaslu, Rahmat said, will form a special team to investigate the video in a plenary meeting. The team will not involve outside parties, such as the police, since the alleged endorsement case has yet to be upgraded into a formal report or a violation investigation.
During the investigation process, Bawaslu will map out the norms or laws that could potentially be violated by the parties involved.
"Are there conflicting norms, and if so, what are the solutions?"
He also confirmed that Bawaslu will not summon those involved in the video during the preliminary investigation process, as they will be summoned once the agency concludes a violation did occur.
"Of course, we will summon the individuals in the video," he stated, adding that the case is handled directly by Bawaslu Indonesia and not the provincial branch of the agency.

The 8th President expressed confidence in Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin's ability to lead Central Java, highlighting their experience and compatibility. Prabowo emphasized that a strong partnership between the central and regional governments would benefit the province.
