TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Authority estimates that 2.9 million passengers will enter the airport during the Christmas and New Year holiday periods.
Thus, the airport authority will work with relevant stakeholders to anticipate the surge in passengers. One of the anticipatory measures is opening the Christmas and New Year Holiday Air Transport Post from December 18, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
"The post plays an important role in ensuring smooth and safe flight operations during Christmas and New Year holidays," said the Head of the Class I Primary Area Airport Authority Office Soekarno-Hatta, Putu Eka Cahyadhi, in an official statement received by Tempo on Wednesday, December 18.
According to Putu, the air transport post will serve as a command center to monitor the latest situation on the ground and swiftly respond to any issues that may arise during the holiday period.
The Soekarno-Hatta Airport also enhances security through the deployment of 266 joint personnel from the Indonesian armed forces, the National Police, Avsec, and related agencies to maintain safety and order in the airport area.
Additionally, passenger facilities are optimized by increasing the capacity of check-in counters, baggage handling systems, and other public facilities.
Airport authorities also strengthen coordination with the airlines, ground handling, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations. Equally important, according to Putu, is preparing for natural disasters and other security disturbances.
The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has also conducted a series of simulations to ensure operational readiness, including airside ramp checks, integrated exercises with the Army Corps of Engineers (Pusziad), airport emergency exercises, electrical reliability tests, and joint inspections with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of America.
Asst. Deputy Communication and Legal of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, M. Holik Muardi, stated that with these measures, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is ready to support smooth operations and guarantee the best travel experience for travelers during this year's holiday season.
