TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spain and five Latin American nations, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Uruguay, have condemned the recent foreign intervention in Venezuela. The group rejects any attempt to seize control of the Venezuelan government or its natural resources. This stance follows a joint statement issued on Sunday. It came after US President Donald Trump declared that Washington would "take care of Venezuela" and manage its oil assets following the military ousting of Nicolas Maduro.

According to an Al Arabiya report, the six countries expressed their strong rejection of the US military operation. They voiced deep concerns about external parties attempting to take over the administration or strategic resources of the nation.

Criticism of International Law Violations

As reported by Euronews, leaders from these six nations emphasized that US actions violated basic international law. Specifically, they cited the prohibition of the use of force and the respect for territorial sovereignty found in the United Nations Charter.

"These actions constitute a dangerous precedent for peace, regional security and pose a risk to the civil population," the group stated.

The joint statement also argued that the Venezuelan crisis must be resolved through dialogue. They insist the solution should reflect the will of the Venezuelan people without external interference. The signatory countries remain worried about potential foreign control of Venezuela's assets.

They asserted, "We express our concern over any attempt to control, through government or administrative means, as well as the external appropriation of the natural and strategic resources (of Venezuela), which are incompatible with international law and pose a threat to the economic, political, and social stability of the region."

Maduro's Abduction by the US

On Saturday, US Delta Force troops captured Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The attack targeted their defense complex in Caracas.

Maduro is currently in New York facing several federal charges, including narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, and the possession of automatic weapons.

President Trump described the operation as a "brilliant" move. He claimed the United States would "take care of Venezuela" during a transition period. While he did not provide details on a new interim government, he hinted at the high value of Venezuela's oil.

During a press conference, Trump spoke about the country's energy potential. He said, "We're going to rebuild the oil infrastructure, which will cost billions of dollars. It will be paid for by the oil companies directly. They will be reimbursed for what they're doing, but that's going to be paid."
