TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has stated that the government's 2026 economic and fiscal policies will focus on food, energy, and economic sovereignty. She emphasized that no country can achieve true sovereignty or prosper its citizens without securing its food and energy supplies.
According to Sri, these initiatives are part of a medium-term strategy designed to support a robust development agenda, with the State Budget (APBN) serving as a critical tool for implementation.
"No country can maintain its sovereignty and prosper its people without being able to meet energy and food needs," Sri Mulyani said during the National Sharia Economy and Finance Virtual Seminar on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
She detailed that the government's medium-term strategy includes eight key programs: food security, energy security, free nutritious meals, education, health, village/cooperative/MSME development, universal defense, and the acceleration of investment and global trade.
For the implementation of these policies, Sri Mulyani highlighted the vital role of the State Budget. As an example, she mentioned that the government can use the budget to provide fertilizer subsidies to farmers in need. "The State Budget instrument is vital to realize fairness. Substantively, it is the Islamic economy," she explained.
In addition to the medium-term plan, Sri Mulyani noted that the government has three short-term programs aimed at maintaining economic resilience and protecting the public. These include ensuring economic stability, shielding the business sector and household purchasing power, and safeguarding the State Budget itself.
Government's Role in the Sharia Economy
Sri Mulyani explained that the government plays a strategic role in the Sharia economic ecosystem by linking economic policies, the State Budget, and all related financial instruments.
She identified three components of this ecosystem: strengthening halal logistics, enhancing Sharia finance, and promoting social empowerment and inclusive literacy. "The government always plays a strategic role as a link through economic policies and the State Budget," she said.
Furthermore, she mentioned that fiscal policies are integral to establishing Indonesia as a global hub for the Sharia economy. This goal requires adding value through robust halal certification standards and integrating halal values into daily life. It also necessitates building strong halal assurance infrastructure and developing human resources with a literacy of Sharia economics.
Sri Mulyani also stated that the government encourages the private sector to issue more sukuk, or long-term Islamic bonds. She noted that currently, most sukuk in Indonesia are government-issued. "Corporations need to be encouraged more. Without that, Indonesia will not have a sufficiently high radar penetration, both locally and globally," she concluded.
