Sumatra Disaster Death Toll Rises to 1,178

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported the number of fatalities due to floods and landslides in three provinces in Sumatra as of Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 1,178 people. This figure is based on data from the Indonesian Disaster Data Geoportal owned by the BNPB.

"Reaching 1,178 souls," wrote the report from the Indonesian Disaster Data Geoportal on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in the morning.

There are three regencies/cities where the most fatalities were found, namely 229 people in North Aceh, 194 people in Agam Regency, and 128 people in Central Tapanuli.

Still based on the same data, the number of missing victims is 148 people. Meanwhile, 142,200 people are still evacuated.

The Head of Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari, previously stated that 1,177 people died due to disasters in Sumatra by Sunday, January 4, 2026, in the evening.

Abdul detailed the victims of the Sumatra disasters with 543 people in Aceh, 370 people in North Sumatra, and 264 people in West Sumatra.

Meanwhile, the number of missing victims has decreased to 17 people. Therefore, 148 people are missing. "Specifically, there are 31 missing in Aceh, 43 missing in North Sumatra, and 74 missing in West Sumatra," he said.
