TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Budi Santoso is aiming to bring down the price of MinyaKita, the country's subsidized cooking oil, this week. The national average price of MinyaKita has currently reached Rp17,100 per liter, exceeding the Highest Retail Price (HET) of Rp15,700 per liter.

“It will start to decrease within the next 2-3 days, returning to normal price,” the Minister said during a press conference at the Trade Ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

Budi Santoso explained that the price of MinyaKita in eastern Indonesia has already begun to decline. This downward trend followed his team's communication with relevant agencies, producers, and distributors in the affected regions. He emphasized that the recent price increase was not significant.

To stabilize MinyaKita prices, the former secretary general of the Trade Ministry intends to increase supply in regions experiencing shortages, primarily in Eastern Indonesia, ahead of the Christmas holiday season in December 2024.

In addition, Budi Santoso has instructed the Food Task Force and the Industrial and Trade Agencies to closely monitor the availability of MinyaKita, particularly in areas with declining supply.

“The monitoring team will report daily through the SP2KP system, at real-time updates on the situation,” the former director general of foreign trade added.

Through this monitoring, Budi Santoso can promptly identify regions with high MinyaKita prices and take immediate action by coordinating with responsible parties and distributors.
