TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two former employees of PT Asi Pudjiastuti Aviation or Susi Air lodged layoff lawsuits at the Industrial Relations Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
This lawsuit has been registered with case numbers 300/Pdt.Sus-PHI/2024/PN.Jkt.Pst and 301/Pdt.Sus-PHI/2024/PN.Jkt.Pst.
Zentoni, the attorney and executive director at Jakarta Consumer Advocacy Institute (LAK), said the two plaintiffs had been laid off without pay since September 2017. Before filing the lawsuit, he said, his clients had reported this matter to the Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Service Office.
"The Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Service Office have issued a recommendation for Susi Air to pay for the two employees’ normative rights," Zentoni said in a statement quoted by Tempo on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
The recommendation said Susi Air shall compensate the employees with severance pay, length of service awards, and compensation pay. Susi Air failed to comply with this recommendation, Zentoni said.
Zentoni hopes Susi Air will fulfill the former employees’ rights before the layoff case is heard on Monday, November 25, 2024.
When contacted by Tempo, the owner of Susi Air, Susi Pudjiastuti, admitted that she was not aware of this lawsuit. "I’m not aware of it yet, I will check later,” Susi said via messaging application on Thursday, without giving out further details about the lawsuit.
Susi Air, established in 2004, is an airline owned by former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti. It began operating in Medan that year, and soon developed its services to other regions in Indonesia.
