TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Joe Biden on Sunday extended his congratulations to Prabowo Subianto on the inauguration as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, as stated in a press release from the US Embassy in Jakarta.
“I congratulate President Prabowo Subianto on his inauguration as President of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Indonesian people for exercising their right to vote and making their voices heard,” Biden said in the statement.
Biden also underlined that he and Vice President Kamala Harris hope to work closely with Prabowo in further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the United States and Indonesia, especially as the two nations celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the oath of office as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term during the Plenary Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Nusantara Building in the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Sunday.
According to observations from the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Sunday, approximately 35 representatives from friendly countries were present at the inauguration event. The United States delegation was led by US Representative to the United Nations Linda T. Greenfield and US Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir.
