TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Saldi Isra dismissed the disputes over regional election results as a seasonal political issue.
“These (election disputes) are political, seasonal issues,” Saldi said on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Saldi reassured disputing parties in court to “not worry” about the court’s ruling, as future elections await. “Since politics never die, and it lives many lives,” he said. “It can be your turn to win [the election] next time.”
Saldi claimed that he understood very well the games that advocates play inside the courtroom. Thus, he must make smart adjustments while presiding over a trial.
The MK Justice then advised against taking courtroom feuds too seriously, lest it create genuine animosity between the disputing parties. Saldi considered such hostilities unnecessary, as opportunities would arrive to win the political stage in the following years.
“Don’t harm our fraternities due to election results,” he said.
The Constitutional Court resumed the regional election dispute trials on Wednesday, January 22, with a total of 40 cases heard between three court panels.
Based on Constitutional Court Regulation No. 14 of 2024, MK scheduled a trial examination from January 17 to February 4. Previously, the Constitutional Court had held preliminary examination hearings on 310 cases.
