TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto aims for all Indonesian children to receive the free nutritious meal program by 2025.
Three million children will enjoy this program from January to April, and six million children will receive free nutritious meals from April to August 2025.
"By September 2025, we expect 15 million children. By the end of 2025, our goal is for all Indonesian children to receive free nutritious meals," Prabowo said during a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
The president said the free nutritious meal program has benefited 659,000 people in 31 provinces. According to Prabowo, this is due to the hard work of several heads of ministries and institutions.
The Gerindra Party's leader said the central government will work with the regional governments to implement this program. The synergy aims to achieve maximum results.
Prabowo also believes that this program will show results shortly. "I believe that in a short time, we will see an increase in the academic ability of our children."
Previously, Prabowo Subianto targeted that all children in Indonesia would have access to free nutritious food by the end of 2025. He made the statement to the media after inaugurating electricity projects in 18 provinces in Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, on Monday, January 20, 2025.
The President explained that the obstacles in distributing free nutritious meals are not only physical but also administrative, as well as the importance of securing funds to prevent embezzlement. However, Prabowo stressed that the government will continue to do the best for the people.
The free nutritious meal program officially started on Monday, January 6, 2024. President Prabowo Subianto's flagship program is expected to reach three million beneficiaries from January to March 2025.
The beneficiaries include infants, santri (students of Islamic boarding schools), children in nursery education, students of kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, and high school, as well as pregnant and lactating women. The number of beneficiaries will continue to grow until it reaches 15 million by the end of 2025. In the first step, the program has been launched in 190 locations in 26 provinces.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto said he had set the details of the budget for the free nutritious meal at Rp10,000 per portion. He believes that the allocation is sufficient for regional needs.
Furthermore, Prabowo pointed out that a family with three to four children could receive Rp 2.7 million per month from this policy and budget.
