TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism has developed five strategies to optimize domestic and international tourist visits ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
"We hope that this momentum can become a driving force for national economic growth, while at the same time enhancing Indonesia's tourism image by providing a comfortable, safe and smooth travel experience," said Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa, as quoted by Antara.
During the coordination meeting for the preparation of the Christmas and New Year holidays, Ni Luh explained that this strategy includes the formulation and dissemination through a circular letter from the Minister of Tourism regarding guidelines for safe, comfortable and enjoyable tourism activities during this period. This circular will be distributed to regional heads, especially tourism departments in 38 provinces, as well as business associations and tourism operators.
"We will hold a coordination meeting in early December 2024 after this circular is issued to ensure the readiness of all relevant parties," Ni Luh explained.
The second strategy is to visit tourist destinations that are expected to be crowded before the Christmas and New Year holidays, such as beaches in Banten, Ancol in Jakarta, and Taman Safari in Puncak, West Java. In Bali, the Ministry of Tourism will check the readiness of the airport to ensure the comfort and safety of tourists.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism is working with partners to offer Christmas and New Year promotions and attractive tour packages.
The government will also strengthen its tourism campaign, dubbed the JAJAN #DiIndonesiaAja (year-end travel in Indonesia), through various digital platforms such as social media and the Tourism Ministry's website, which will provide promotional information, event inspiration, destination recommendations, and the latest updates.
From December 2024 to January 2025, various events have been prepared to boost tourist movement. The economic potential from domestic tourist trips during the Christmas and New Year holidays is estimated to reach Rp117.3 trillion with approximately 78.2 million trips. Meanwhile, the economic potential from foreign tourists is projected to be between Rp22.55 trillion and Rp29.2 trillion, with an estimate of 1.02 million to 1.325 million trips during December 2024.
