TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetyo Adi, has addressed concerns regarding the reduced budget for the free nutritious meal program to Rp10,000 per individual. He said that the National Nutrition Agency led by Dandan Hindayana had formulated the policy.
“The focus is actually on nutritional value, as always emphasized by the President,” Arief said at the Bapanas Office on Monday, December 2, 2024.
He declined to elaborate further but reiterated that the implementation of the free nutritious meal program falls under the purview of the National Nutrition Agency. Regardless of the budget issue, he stressed the importance of prioritizing nutritional standards.
“It is a 'nutritious meal' program. Just because it’s free, it doesn’t mean a compromise on nutrition. That’s President Prabowo’s instruction,” he added.
Previously, Dandan Hindayana announced a budget of Rp15,000 per individual for the program. However, President Prabowo Subianto subsequently declared a budget of Rp10,000 per person for both children and pregnant women.
“We aimed for Rp15,000, but considering the budget constraints, we believe that Rp10,000 is sufficient for certain regions. It can still ensure quality and nutritional adequacy,” he explained at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Prabowo highlighted the potential impact of the policy, stating that a family with three to four children could receive up to Rp2.7 million per month. “When combined with social assistance programs like the Family Hope Program and other aid, we believe those are the government's efforts to support all segments of society,” the former Defense Minister concluded.
