TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BBN Airlines Indonesia has suspended the service of the Jakarta-Surabaya flight route starting Wednesday, January 15, 2025, despite being launched merely a few months ago in September 2024.
The flight route closure is contained in circular number PTBBN-SD-2025-01-08/352 concerning the notification of closure of the Jakarta-Surabaya-Jakarta Flight Route (CGK-SUB-CGK) by PT BBN Airlines Indonesia.
The decision was taken due to low market demand, reflected in a less-than-50 percent seat occupancy rate. Flight data shows that on January 15, there were only 81 passengers bound for Surabaya from Jakarta and 59 departing for Jakarta from Surabaya.
On January 16, BBN Airlines conducted an internal audit, which recorded meager 306 tickets sold for scheduled departures from January 17 to March 28, 2025.
As a result of the Jakarta-Surabaya flight route suspension, as many as 288 tickets have been refunded, while another 18 are in the process of refunding.
According to its official website, BBN Airlines Indonesia is a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, a leading ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance) service provider. Avia Solutions Group was founded in Lithuania in 2010 before moving its headquarters to Dublin, Ireland.
Established in Jakarta in August 2022, BBN Airlines Indonesia operates as a scheduled commercial airline focusing on ACMI leasing, charter flights, cargo services, and scheduled flights. The airline has its operational base at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
BBN Airlines Indonesia currently operates a fleet of six aircraft, including two units of Boeing BT37-800 BCF exclusively used for cargo flights, as well as one unit of B737-400 SF and three units of B737-800 NG serving passenger flights, as of November 2023.
In December 2023, BBN Airlines Indonesia received funding of US$6.2 million from its parent company, Avia Solutions Group. The company plans to increase its fleet to 40 aircraft by the end of 2027.
Strategically based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, BBN Airlines Indonesia serves as a key hub for customers across Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The airline offers reliable and efficient air transportation services, with a focus on customer satisfaction.
