TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that several regions of West Java will be showered with rain ranging from light to heavy for a week, from October 28 to November 3, 2024. The potential for moderate to very heavy rain that could be accompanied by thunder or strong winds is likely to occur in many areas as of November 1, 2024.
On Monday, October 28, moderate to very heavy rain is predicted to occur in the regions of West Bandung, Cianjur, Sukabumi Regency and City, Purwakarta, and Bogor Regency. While on Tuesday, there is only a chance around Bogor Regency and City, Sukabumi Regency, and Cianjur.
On Wednesday, the potential for moderate to heavy rain in Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the potential includes Pangandaran, Tasikmalaya Regency and City, Ciamis, Banjar, then Cianjur, Sukabumi City and Regency, Bogor, Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, Indramayu, and Kuningan.
On Friday, the potential starts from Bogor Regency and City, Bekasi City, Depok, Karawang, Sukabumi City and Regency, Cianjur, Purwakarta, Subang, Greater Bandung, Garut, Sumedang, Majalengka, Kuningan, Indramayu, Cirebon, Ciamis, Banjar, Pangandaran, and Tasikmalaya.
On Saturday and Sunday, the potential is in Bogor Regency and City, Bekasi City, Depok, Karawang, Sukabumi City and Regency, Cianjur, Purwakarta, Subang, Greater Bandung, Garut, Sumedang, Majalengka, Kuningan, Indramayu, Cirebon, Ciamis, Banjar, Pangandaran, and Tasikmalaya.
According to the BMKG Meteorological Station in West Java, several factors influence the formation of convective clouds and rain in West Java, such as the relatively warm sea surface temperatures in some Indonesian waters. Then, active Rossby equatorial waves over the weekend.
Other factors include convergence or the meeting of winds in parts of West Java. Then, local atmospheric instability that is mild to strong, thereby supporting the convective process on a local scale, especially during the afternoon to evening.
BMKG advises to remain vigilant about the potential impacts of weather during the transition period, such as hot or scorching daytime temperatures due to the beginning of convective cloud growth and the potential for light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds in the afternoon or evening. Also, be alert to hydro-meteorological disasters such as inundation, floods, landslides, and strong winds.
