TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - French Ambassador for Indonesia, Fabien Penone, revealed that the French government is opening opportunities for Indonesia to explore cooperation in renewable energy transition. In addition, he also mentioned that the French government is opening opportunities to collaborate in the field of nuclear energy.
"We are looking for opportunities to collaborate with the government (of Indonesia), if the government is ready to work on this with us," said Penone at the residence of the French Embassy, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
This step is one of the diversification options for cooperation between the two countries, as agreed by the leaders of Indonesia and France in their meeting during the G20 Summit in Brazil.
Penone stated that this cooperation should be viewed as a long-term relationship. According to him, France is facing new challenges while Indonesia is a large developing country with great potential.
"We believe we can do more together. And, that's what our two presidents have decided to develop, diversify, and deepen," he said.
Penone highlights that French President Emmanuel Macron and President Prabowo Subianto have agreed to give a fresh boost to this bilateral partnership in a number of recent meetings, including on July 24, 2024 in Paris and on November 19, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the sidelines of the G20 High-Level Conference.
Penone hopes that the celebration of the 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year will be an opportunity to launch new cooperation programs between the two countries.
"By making France more known in Indonesia and vice versa, and by encouraging increased exchanges between French and Indonesian civil societies," he said.
