TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - GOOGLE has added the Preferred Sources feature to the Google Search browser to filter news options. Google Search Product Manager Duncan Osborn said the feature is designed to personalize the experience by showing more news from favorite sites.

"Preferred Sources is rolling out today and will be broadly available in the coming days," he said via Google's official site on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Osborn said that Preferred Sources is currently available in the United States and India. The feature will prioritize information from news outlets that users follow or subscribe to.

When users choose a preferred source, they will start to see more prominently displayed articles in the top stories. News from a news site will be presented fresh and relevant to the user's search. "You can select as many sources as you like," wrote Duncan Osborn.

The use of this feature is still limited to Google Labs. Preferred Sources will appear automatically on Google Search for users who have previously tried it.

For users who want to set their news site preferences, they need to adjust it in the Google Search browser. Click the 'top stories' icon, and a number of columns will appear for the user to fill in with the desired news sites.

"Once you select your sources, they will appear more frequently in Top Stories or in a dedicated "From your sources" section on the search results page," said Duncan.
