TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Communication and Digital, in collaboration with the United Nations in Indonesia and Binus University, on United Nations Day, October 24, held a dynamic event focused on celebrating the creativity and contributions of young Indonesians. Themed “Pact to the Future: Youth at the Heart of Change,” the event emphasized the critical role youth play in driving innovation, peacebuilding, and sustainability, the UN Information Center said in a statement.
One of the key highlights was the announcement of the winners of a national stamp competition. Launched earlier this year, the contest invited youth from across the country to design a stamp symbolizing the partnership between Indonesia and the UN, as well as their shared commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Armelsa Ferdinandus, 18, from Jakarta took first place, followed by Rice Anggraini, 18, from Bengkulu in second place, and Revant Marlun, 15, from Jakarta in third.

In his keynote speech, Adam Mulawarman Tugio, Senior Advisor to the Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored the importance of youth participation. “Young people are essential to Indonesia’s development and our efforts to achieve the SDGs,” he said, adding that the newly launched stamp is a powerful symbol of the contributions young people are making and the strong partnership between Indonesia and the UN.
The day’s activities were designed to engage and inspire young Indonesians. Workshops, youth-led discussions, and cultural performances created a space for young people to share their ideas and collaborate on solutions for a more sustainable future. A special session saw youth representatives discuss how they are driving positive change in their communities, highlighting the importance of youth-led initiatives in achieving sustainable development.
Gita Sabharwal, the UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia, expressed the UN's commitment to supporting young people to shape “a more inclusive and sustainable future.” She added that “The United Nations is committed to working alongside Indonesia’s youth to support their innovative contributions and ideas. This event and the stamp competition showcase the incredible potential of Indonesia’s young generation”.
A particularly memorable moment was the introduction of the “SDG Time Capsule,” where participants contributed messages about their hopes for 2030. This symbolic gesture reflected the collective vision of a sustainable future and will remain sealed until the end of the decade.
The UN Day celebration also featured cultural performances and exhibits from UN agencies and private sector partners, all aimed at highlighting sustainable development solutions in Indonesia.
This event not only marked Indonesia’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals but also spotlighted the powerful role youth are playing in driving the country’s progress toward a more sustainable and innovative future.
